How do I Apply for Food Stamps in the City of Chicago in Cook County?
The Illinois Department of Human Services offers a food and nutrition service to help low income individuals and families buy healthy food. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is available to qualifying residents, including those in Chicago. Recipients of SNAP may use food stamp benefits to buy food meant for human consumption as well as seeds and plants to grow their own fruits and vegetables. Qualifying recipients access their food stamp benefits using the Illinois Link card issued to them upon approval of their SNAP application.Instructions
