Liger's Diet

Ligers are a breed of endangered big cat that are the product of the mating of a female tiger and a male lion. Ligers tend to grow much larger than either parent and resemble a lion with stripes.
  1. Meat

    • Because the liger is a combination of two carnivorous animals, the lion and the tiger, their diet is the same. For the majority of their feeding, they depend on meat acquired through hunting the plains. These meat sources include the exotic animals of the plains including zebra, giraffe, buffalo, wildebeest, gazelles and impala.

    Scavenged Remains

    • In addition to the food they hunt, kill and eat, ligers like their counterparts will happily scavenge the leftover remains of other animals in the wild such as kills of cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs and hyenas.

    Amount of Food

    • Because ligers tend to be bigger than their lion and tiger counterparts, they require more food. The average adult female lion consumes approximately 11 lbs of food per day and the adult male approximately 15 lbs. Adult ligers can consume up to 18 to 25lbs of food per day.
