Paint Stain Removal Information

Paint can brighten and update any room. Painting can be messy and may lead to stains on flooring, furniture and clothing. But don't fret, removing paint from a variety of services is as easy as using a few household items.
  1. Carpet

    • Paint on a carpet may be inevitable when painting the surrounding walls of a carpeted room. You can easily remove paint stains from carpet with simple, at-home tools, such as a liquid all-purpose detergent, soapy water and a dry towel. Begin by applying the detergent from under the carpet and blotting the stain with a dry towel. Once the detergent comes to the surface of the carpet, apply soapy water, blot, then detergent and blot. Repeat this until the stain is gone.

    Furniture

    • Removing paint from furniture is also as simple as using a few household items. You will need warm water, paint thinner, a dry towel and a mild detergent. Start by removing excess paint by blotting with a towel. Using a cloth, apply paint thinner directly onto the stain and rub. Continue rubbing until the stain is gone.

    Fibers

    • Removing paint from fibers is a bit tricky. It involves an absorbent pad, ammonia, dry cleaning solvent, dry spotter, sponge and a plastic knife. Using the plastic knife, begin scraping off the paint. Next, apply dry cleaning solvent to the stain using a sponge and rub from the middle outward. Cover the stain with a dry spotter until it no longer absorbs the paint, then apply a new spotter. Flush it with water, and if there is still a visible stain, repeat the process.

    Clothes

    • You can remove paint from clothes many ways. One such way uses rubbing alcohol, a toothbrush and warm water. With this method, dampen the stain with warm water, then add rubbing alcohol. Use the toothbrush to scrub the stain out. Once the stain beings to disappear, flush with warm water to remove the stain entirely. Another method uses hairspray, a toothbrush and a washing machine. Simply spray the stain with hairspray and scrub using the toothbrush. After thoroughly scrubbing the stain, wash the clothes on the regular cycle in a washing machine.

    Wood

    • Paint drips on a hardwood floor are quite simple to remove. Use a damp towel to wipe the paint as much as possible; follow with a toothpick to scrape out any paint that has fallen into the joints of the floor. However, if the paint is dry on hardwood floors. use a household item with a dull scraping edge, such as a spatula or dull knife, to scrape off the paint.
