1
Look on the nutrition facts panel for the number of total fat grams.
-
2
Divide the number of fat grams by 14, because each tablespoon of pure fat contains 14 grams, according to Shirley O'Corriher's book, "Cookwise." For instance, if a serving of meat has 7 grams of fat per serving, divide 7 by 14 to get ½ tablespoon of fat.
-
3
Determine the grams in a given number of tablespoons of 100 percent pure fats such as shortening, lard or oil by multiplying 14 by the number of tablespoons. For example, 2 tbsp. of lard contains 28 grams of fat.
-
4
Convert tablespoons of butter into grams of fat by multiplying the number of tablespoons by 14 and then by 0.8 since butter contains 80 percent fat. For example, 1 tbsp. of butter would have 11.2 grams.
