1
Write out a game plan. How do you want to help? Do you want to find an existing organization that helps feed hungry children locally, or do you want to start your own initiative that others can join? Both require research and footwork. The latter requires more organization and a more involved leadership commitment. Be honest with yourself about what your realistic level of commitment can be, especially in terms of time and energy. You don't want to be frustrated by the effort to help, or let down those who are expecting your assistance.

2
Research local organizations that are already helping children. Check your local newspapers. Whether you want to volunteer time or start your own food drive, familiarize yourself with what is already being done in your neighborhood or town. You don't need to re-invent the wheel, and you want your energies to be spent in the most effective way.

Contact local child welfare agencies to see if they can offer you advice or contact information about accredited organizations and food banks that they utilize. If there is no local chapter of a recommended organization, you can volunteer to start one. They should also be able to give you info on homeless shelters where you may be able to volunteer or donate goods.

Donate what you can. It does not matter if you give money, services, food or time. If you help feed even one child, you make an immense contribution.
