King crab, caught in cold North Atlantic waters off the coasts of Alaska, Canada, Japan and Russia, is considered one of the most tasty varieties of crab in the world. There are three varieties: red king crab, blue king crab and golden king crab. Only the legs and claws of the king crab are edible.

    • The meat of king crab is low in fat, with only 1.3 g per three oz. serving. Most of the fat is made up of the essential fatty acids, omega-3 and omega-6. It is especially high in healthy omega-3 fatty acids, with 389 mg per serving.

    Sodium and Cholesterol

    • The sodium content of king crab leg and claw meat is high, with 911 mg per serving. This provides 38 percent of the RDA of sodium. King crab is also high in cholesterol, containing 45 mg in three oz. of meat.
