Where Can I See the Calorie Values of Food?
The calorie values for foods are listed near the top of the Nutritional Facts label on the food's package.-
History
-
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines stipulate that all food manufactures list the "Nutritional Facts" of their products on food packages. Many restaurants also make the nutritional information of their dishes available online or upon request.
Types
-
The number listed next to the bold typing of "Calories" indicates the number of total calories in a serving; the number listed next to the plain typing of "Calories from fat" indicates how much of the total calories in a serving come from fat.
Size
-
A food's serving size and your portion size are not necessarily the same thing. Serving size is the amount listed on nutritional labels as a point of reference for the nutritional facts. Portion size represents the amount of food you actually consume.
Considerations
-
To determine how many calories are in the portion size of your meal, first determine your portion size using the same standard of measurement listed alongside the serving size on the nutritional label. Divide your determine portion size by the listed serving size, and multiply the result by the listed total calorie amount.
Tips
-
Some digital food scales come with a feature which allows you to determine the calorie content of your food simply by weighing it and entering the appropriate code for that particular food in the scale unit.
