Quick Diet to Eliminate Glucose

According to information from Colorado State University, blood glucose, also known as blood sugar, is a substance which is produced by the conversion of digested carbohydrates to fuel the body's activities. While glucose is the most readily available and fastest energy source used by the body, excess glucose levels can cause a number of health concerns, such as weight gain, obesity and the onset of diabetes. If you are currently suffering from pre-diabetes (or simply want to lower your resting level of blood glucose for another purpose), you can accomplish your goal through some simple dietary manipulations.
  1. Glucose-Lowering Diet

    • Consume a diet low in carbohydrates in order to reduce blood glucose levels. As dietary carbohydrates are the body's main supply of glucose, cutting off that supply by limiting their consumption is the ideal way to drop your glucose levels as quickly and efficiently as possible. This means you will need to do two things---limit yourself to no more than 30 to 50 grams of carbs per day and also limit the types of carbs you consume to only those items which will not have a major effect on blood sugar levels. This means eating carbs which are fairly low on the glycemic index, which is a scale ranking carbs based on how high they cause blood sugar to spike following consumption. The best carbs to keep blood sugar low are vegetables, followed closely by fruits, and then whole grains.

    Meal Planning

    • Structure your meals around consumption of protein and fat with only trace servings of foods containing carbohydrates to have the largest reduction in blood sugar in the shortest amount of time. This means consuming plenty of meats (pork, lamb, veal, venison, beef, chicken and seafood) along with some cheeses, and healthy sources of fat such as nuts, seeds, natural nut butters, and oils (fish, flax, and olive). When deciding on carb sources, remember that green vegetables especially have a nominal impact on blood sugar, so these should form the basis of of your carb intake. Feel free to incorporate some low-GI fruits like apples, citrus fruits, and cherries, along with one or two servings of whole grains per day (oats, rye, barley, and wheat). This should keep you under your carb limit and lower blood sugar quickly and painlessly. In addition to lowering blood sugar levels, you should also experience some weight loss as an added benefit of this plan.
