Diet Sources of Magnesium Chloride
Magnesium is a mineral found in the body and is essential for healthy cell function. Magnesium is found in the bones, cells, organs and tissue of your body. It is often the ignored mineral, but it is essential for your nervous system, metabolism, blood sugar, bones and heart as well as many other functions. Magnesium chloride (MgCl2) is the chemical compound mixture of magnesium and chloride and is found in sea water. When used as a food additive--a good coagulant and water soluble--it is a good source of magnesium.-
Popeye Had a Good Plan
-
Spinach is a good natural source of magnesium, as are most green leafy vegetables, especially seaweed. The chlorophyll in the leaves that makes them green contains magnesium chloride. So if you remember to choose greens, especially spinach, you will be getting your magnesium as well as other vitamins.
If you are not a greens fan, nuts and whole grains are also excellent sources of magnesium. Whole-wheat bread is particularly rich in magnesium. Just make sure that it is 100 percent whole wheat with no enriched flour. If you remember to eat a variety of beans, leafy greens, nuts and unrefined whole-grain breads, you may meet or exceed the daily value of necessary magnesium.
Proteins and Pasta Sauce
-
Tofu and soy milk are great sources of magnesium chloride, as are saltwater fish like halibut and salmon, which are good sources of nature's magnesium. Three ounces of fish fulfills 20 percent of the daily recommended levels of magnesium. Cashews and almonds, about 1 oz. each, will fulfill almost half of your daily recommended intake. Now add some plain, skim-milk yogurt. About 8 oz. will yield 15 percent of your daily recommended intake. If you love pasta, drench it with tomato sauce made from tomato paste. The paste is a very good source of magnesium.
Variety Is the Spice of Life
-
Peanut butter, for all those who are not keen on greens and yogurt, will deliver a good percentage of the daily value of magnesium. Load some peanut butter on two slices of whole-wheat bread and you have a meal that is tasty and magnesium-rich. And there is joy at the end of the magnesium rainbow, even a dessert like a milk chocolate candy bar or chocolate pudding contains some magnesium and will satisfy about 8 percent of your recommended daily magnesium requirements. So if you have a daily diet that is full of variety with grains, leafy greens, nuts, fish and even chocolate, you will be eating a magnesium-rich diet, and your body will thank you.
