Things Not to Drink on Liquid Detox

There are certain things you should not drink on a liquid detox. A liquid detox is temporary fast in which a person eliminates all solid foods and most likely will consume only water, fruit juice and vegetable juice (made with a juicer or purchased at a health food store) and some soups. While there is no scientific evidience that liquid detoxes act as a miracle cure for disease or purify the body, when followed correctly they may be beneficial for cleansing the body of some toxins, as well as for temporary weight loss.
  1. Avoid alcohol

    • Alcohol including beer, wine and liquor should be avoided entirely during a liquid detox because they severely dehydrate the body. Alcohol's physical side effects include dizziness, nausea, headache, thirst and fatigue. These effects will be exacerbated if a person does not consume whole foods, as alcohol will pass more rapidly through the bloodstream. The person may also become very sick or even be at risk of alcohol poisoning if too much alcohol is consumed during this time.

    Avoid caffeine

    • Do not consume any caffeinated beverages. Coffee drinks (such as cappuccinos, lattes and espresso) will dehydrate your body. The effects of caffeine, which may include increased heart rate, headache and the jitters, will increase while you are not eating solid foods.

    Other things to avoid

    • You should also avoid juices containing high sugar content, soda (which contains sugar and usually caffeine) or diet soda (which usually contains caffeine). Avoid energy drinks, as they are usually high in caffeine and may contain unsafe ingredients that are not yet approved by the FDA. Also avoid nicotine, as its poisonous chemicals and carcinogens may cause severe weakness, dizziness and even vomiting.

    Liquid detox for toxin removal

    • Liquid detoxes are used for toxin removal. Toxins are poisonous chemicals or substances that may have harmful effects on the body and come from plants animals and certain bacterias. Toxins come from food or water, chemicals used to grow or prepare food and from the air that we breathe. Our bodies process toxins through organs like the liver and kidneys and eliminate them in the form of sweat, urine, and feces.

    Warnings

    • Always consult your doctor before beginning any liquid detox or fasting. Be prepared to experience sides effects during your detox, including possible caffeine withdrawal, headaches, fatigue, irritability, dizziness or lightheadedness.
