1
Place a small amount of hemorrhoid cream on your eyelids. These creams contain anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce the swelling. Avoid getting any in your eyes.
-
2
Place a gel-filled icepack on top of your eyes for 5 to 10 minutes. These are available in most pharmacies and beauty stores. Lie down and relax, and the swelling should reduce. You can also try an ordinary icepack and gain similar results.
-
3
Massage the eyelids gently where they are the puffiest. Swelling is often caused by fluid retention, and this helps drain the fluid.
-
4
Soak a cloth in cold milk and apply it to your eyes. This helps reduce the swelling and dark circles that appear under the eyes.
-
5
Drink plenty of water. Puffy eyes are caused by water retention. The body retains water when it isn't getting enough of it. By drinking water, you help flush your system of toxins and ensure that your body is hydrated.
-
6
Avoid drinking caffeine, fizzy drinks and artificial sweeteners. These can contribute to water retention.
-
7
Make sure you are getting enough rest. An adult requires 6 to 8 hours of sleep each day. Lack of sleep can cause the dark circles and puffiness to occur.
-
8
Place grated potatoes or sliced cucumbers over the eyes to reduce swelling. Doing this can also moisturize the skin, making your eyes look more refreshed.
