Adrenal Glands & Nutrition
The adrenal glands affect every cell and organ in the body. They require specific nutrients to carry out their many important functions.-
Vitamin C
-
Having adequate vitamin C in the body reduces the stress imposed on the adrenal glands by assisting with detoxification, fighting infection, managing stress and as a natural antihistamine.
B-Complex and Vitamin B5
-
Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is required for the production of cortisol in the body. Taking 250 to 500 mg of this vitamin up to three times daily may promote adrenal health. Since B vitamins function best as a group, B-complex vitamin should also be taken.
Potassium
-
Potassium is essential for the adrenals' gluco-corticoid hormones. Good sources of potassium are bananas, potatoes, lemons, oranges, parsley and garlic.
Vitamin A and Zinc
-
Both vitamin A and zinc are essential for the metabolism of new proteins in the body.
Calcium and Magnesium
-
Taking 750 to 1000 mg calcium citrate, along with 400 to 500 mg magnesium citrate may be beneficial for managing adrenal stress and promoting restful sleep.
Foods to Avoid
-
To maintain optimal adrenal health, one should avoid eating fruit in the morning, eating any foods they may be allergic or sensitive to, caffeine, refined sugar, alcohol, and food products containing white flour.
