A List of Healthy Snacks for Kids
Teaching your child healthy eating habits and snack options is imperative to her future health. Provide your child with several healthy snack options both when sending a snack to school or for after school. Remember, your children learn by example.-
Fresh fruit

Ask your child what fruit he likes best. Sliced apples, pieces of orange or grapes work great for packing for school snacks. Also, have fresh fruit in easy-to-reach containers in the refrigerator for your child to access freely.
Nuts

Nuts are a healthy unsaturated fat snack choice. Peanuts or mixed nuts work great for an in-between meal snack when a child comes home from school. Combined with something sweet, it satisfies the appetite. Also, this is great opportunity to introduce new food to your child such as almonds or cashews. Because of their high fat content, they however should be eaten sparingly.
Granola bars

Easy to pack for school or to carry with you on a long day of errands, your child can enjoy a healthy granola bar. Different flavor granola bars are available including Apple Cinnamon, Peanut Butter or Strawberry.
Trail mix

Making one's own trail mix with your child is easy. Purchase breakfast cereal, raisins, nuts, dried fruits and chocolate chips and create a healthy snack. Allow your child to contribute to creating the mix to guarantee they like the elements of the trail mix and will eat it.
Popcorn

This is great to have in hand when traveling. Pop a bag and make small bags to give to children while in the car, running errands or even for an in-school snack. It's also great to have on hand in a bowl on the kitchen table as children can grab a snack if they are hungry in between meals.
Rice cakes

This kid-friendly snack is great for in the car. Rice cakes come in various flavors including apple, caramel, ranch, plain, peanut butter and mixed fruit.
Veggie Platter

Prepare a platter of various vegetables and place it on the kitchen table. This is great for after school as children are often anxiously awaiting dinner and want to snack. Provide veggies you know your child likes as well as a few new ones they can try!
Cheese Tortillas

Use some tortillas; melt cheese on them in the microwave. Provide low-fat sour cream or salsa for dipping. This makes a great after-school snack.
