Poultry Nutritional Values

Turkey, chicken and duck are often used during the holidays or to mark a special occasion. While they may have flavor, they have both positives and negative nutritional points to consider.
  1. General Information

    • While each type of poultry will be different, there are certain characteristics that are seen throughout the type of meat. Poultry will often be somewhat high in fat and cholesterol, but will be an excellent source of protein.

    Chicken

    • Half of one breast of chicken has 8 g of fat, and has nearly 20 percent of your daily value of cholesterol. This serving does have 18 g of protein, however, as well as 23 percent of your daily value of vitamin B6.

    Duck

    • Half of a duck (270 g of meat) has 41 g of fat, and 72 percent of your daily value of cholesterol. The same serving has 47 g of protein, and also has 62 percent of your daily value of iron.

    Turkey

    • Meat from one pound of turkey breast has 32 g of protein, and has over 35 percent of your daily value of vitamin B6 and niacin. Turkey is still high in cholesterol, however, with 32 percent of your daily value in one serving.

    Guinea Hen

    • Half of a Guinea hen has a lot to offer. There are 81 g of protein in half of the Guinea hen. There is also 132 percent of your daily value of niacin, and 66 percent of your daily value of vitamin B6.
