Uses of Vanadyl Sulfate

Vanadyl Sulfate (VOSO(4)) is the most popular and common form of vanadium, a trace element found in the body. It is a component of some food supplements and drugs. Vanadium seems to be needed for normal growth and development in the human body. In recent years, studies have shown that vanadium salts like vanadium sulfate can mimic the role of insulin.
  1. Diabetes

    • Vanadium Sulfate has been shown to reduce hyperglycemia, improved liver and muscle insulin sensitivity, and significantly improve glycemic control in people with type 2 diabetes. Intake of Vanadium sulfate at a dose of 50 mg twice daily showed an improvement in fasting glucose and hepatic insulin resistance.

    Cholesterol

    • Vanadium Sulfate reduces plasma total cholesterol levels, including LDL cholesterol in patients suffering from Type II diabetes.

    Muscle strength and body building

    • Vanadium Sulfate increases insulin level. In a post-exercise environment, it potentiates carbohydrate metabolism, thus increasing glycogen and protein synthesis. By increasing the amount of glycogen being stored in the muscles, it decreases post-exercise fatigue recovery times. After few weeks of using vanadyl sulfate, users feel "pumped" muscles fuller and harder.

    Side Effects

    • In overweight people, using vanadium sulfate can increase triglyceride levels. Also, mild gastrointestinal problems can occur with the daily intake of Vanadium Sulfate as a diet supplement. When combined with blood sugar-lowering medications, it can cause hypoglycemia, too.
