How to Crush Spirulina

Spirulina is a blue-green algae high in protein, B vitamins and iron. It has also been hailed as a "superfood, " largely due to its antioxidant properties. Like other algae, spirulina grows on the surface of water. Spirulina is harvested and sold commercially as a nutritional supplement. You can purchase spirulina in both pill and powder form. Powders are easier to mix with other foods but may not be as readily available as tablets. Create your own powdered spirulina simply by crushing tablets to a fine powder.

Release your fingers and firmly press the spoon down onto the pill and then turn in a clockwise motion. You should be pressing and turning in a grinding motion. The pill should break after one turn.
