The flaxseed oil is often mixed with other oils for texture and scent when used in beauty products or for skin care. But can also be used alone as a home remedy. Flaxseed oil is often used in salad dressing in order to fortify the dressing with omega-3 fatty acids. It can be added to hot cereal, nut butters and even fruit smoothies. For those who do not enjoy the taste, smaller amounts can still be beneficial. Most Americans do not get enough omega-3 acid in their diets. Omega-3 oils are important because they are antioxidants, beneficial to the function of nerves and lowering triglycerides to keep the heart healthy. Our bodies do not create any omega-3 fatty acids so it is important to consume them through diet.

The alpha-linolenic acid present in flaxseed oil is changed in the body to become the same basic acids present in omega-3 fish oils. These supplements are used as preventatives for high blood pressure, high triglycerides, heart disease and more. Flaxseed oil supplements do not have the fishy after taste of fish oil supplements.
