How to take Omega 3 Without Tasting or Burping Fish Oil

The American Heart Association recommends omega 3 through eating foods high in this fatty acid, such as salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel or lake trout. But many people cannot possibly eat enough fish daily to receive a healthy intake of omega 3, especially if they have inflammation in their body, coronary artery disease or high triglycerides. In these cases, supplementing with omega 3 capsules is an effective alternative. Many who have taken omega 3 capsules experience a "fishy" taste or have experienced "burping up" fish oil afterward. This can be controlled.

Instructions

    • 1

Consult with your doctor about taking omega 3. Ask your doctor how much fish oil she would recommend that you take per day. Discuss any medications you are taking with your doctor and whether the omega 3 will interact negatively with it.

    • 2

Swallow the fish oil capsules in the middle of a meal instead of before a meal, on an empty stomach or at bedtime. Having food on your stomach helps the fish oil to settle, and the taste will be reduced.

    • 3

Place the omega 3 container in the refrigerator. Keeping omega 3 capsules from cold water fish in the refrigerator will help diminish the fish oil taste. Fish oil that is kept cold will not be burped up as much as omega 3 capsules that are room temperature.
