How to Grind Flax Seeds in a Small Food Processor

When purchasing flaxseeds buy them whole, rather than ground, for a longer shelf life. Yet, they should be ground before eaten, for the maximum nutritional benefit. Coffee grinders are well suited for grinding flaxseeds, but if you use the grinder for coffee, the flaxseeds may pick up the coffee flavor. Another grinding option is a small food processor, yet it is not as efficient as the coffee grinder. Grind just what you need, and store the rest. When storing your whole flaxseeds, place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Instructions

    • 1

Assemble the food processor according to the manufacturer's instructions and insert the food-processing blade.

    • 2

Add about 4 tbsp. of whole flaxseeds to the processor bowl and cover with the lid, locking it into place.

    • 3

Press and repress the pulsing option, turning the machine on and off, to grind the seeds in spurts, as opposed to simply turning on the machine and letting it run. Process until the seeds are the desired consistency.
