Proper Use of Protein Supplements
Bodybuilders and those who do not get enough protein in their diet use protein supplements. The supplements increase the amount of protein your body receives on a daily basis. As protein is the building block of muscle, it benefits those who are trying to tone their physique and increase their strength. However, you must use the supplement correctly for it to be effective.-
Daily Use
-
Protein supplements are considered safe to use daily. No studies have related its regular use to problems or symptoms of any kind. Typical usage is one or two protein servings per day. The most common serving is a protein shake. When mixed with milk, water or juice, the protein mixes turn into a thick liquid similar to an ice cream shake in consistency. Some include flavorings like strawberry or chocolate. You can consume these shakes before or after a meal in the afternoon or evening.
Cautions
-
Protein supplement makers often list warnings on their products to avoid using them if problems do arise. Stomach pains or digestive problems are two of the most dominant problems stressed on most protein shake labels. Protein is digested in the stomach and partially in the intestine. Problems can arise from improper digestion of proteins, and if your body has a history of this problem, a protein supplement might be an issue for you. Consult your doctor in this case before you take the supplements.
Using Protein Shakes with a Workout
-
Many bodybuilders and athletes want to maximize their workouts by eating the proper nutrients at the right times. Some experts suggest drinking protein shakes before a workout, others suggest drinking them afterward. Your body needs proteins in order to build muscles and to function. If it does not have enough proteins, it may break down muscle tissue in order to fulfill this need. You may decide to ingest a protein supplement after a workout simply because you feel weighed down if you drink one before you hit the gym. The difference may be very small and if there is any advantage it might be offset by a slighter performance in the workout. Take them when you are comfortable and within a reasonable time of working out for optimum results.
