The University of Maryland Medical Center cautions against the use of flax oil to treat conditions such as diabetes and schizophrenia. People with these conditions may not be able to convert the omega-3 fatty acid ALA.
Storage

Flax oil must be refrigerated, or it will become rancid. The shelf life for flax oil is six to eight weeks.
