Bentonite Diet

Anyone focused on losing weight, cleansing their colon and detoxifying their body can benefit from using Bentonite clay. This clay is a naturally occurring substance found mostly in the United States in the Great Plains area. While consuming clay may seem baffling, the addition of Bentonite to a healthy diet high in fruits, vegetables and whole grains can speed weight loss and flush toxins from your body.
  1. How Bentonite Clay Works

    • According to Healing Daily, "bentonite clay is made of up a high number of tiny platelets, with negative electrical charges on their flat surfaces and positive charges on their edges." The toxins in our body, which lead to disease and obesity, are positively charged. Bentonite clay is not digestible by the body, so when it travels through our system, its negative charges attract the toxins. When the bentonite clay leaves the body through the colon, the toxins leave with it, causing a cleansing effect.

Simply taking bentonite clay as a supplement to your diet is typically not enough to induce weight loss. However, if your diet has been high in fat and sugar in the past, including bentonite as part of your new diet could be a great way to get rid of those stored toxins.

Adding Bentonite Clay to Your Diet

    • As a dietary supplement, bentonite clay is most often available as a gel. You may also find it at some health stores as a powder or in capsules. As with all foods and supplements, different people may experience different reactions. Therefore, it is advised to introduce a small amount of bentonite clay to your diet at first, and increase or decrease depending on your body's reaction.

Colon Zone recommends taking bentonite clay about an hour before eating with some sort of fiber, like psyllium husk. The fiber aids in pushing the clay through the intestines. While bentonite clay is tasteless, adding honey and mixing the gel or powder in water makes it more palatable. Another idea is to mix the clay with fresh applesauce. The apples will not only improve the flavor, but because they include fiber and pectin (a binding agent), they also improve the clay's function.
