Supplements for Thinning & Graying Hair

Though it's hard to sort fact from advertising hype, it may be possible to use nutritional supplements to treat thinning or graying hair. However, talk to your doctor before adding too many supplements or vitamins to your diet.
  1. Polygonium Multiflorium

    • Polygonium Multiflorium is a herb used in traditional Chinese medicine. This herb can supposedly help reverse hair graying. It is also known as Fo Ti and may lower cholesterol.

    Biotin

    • Vitamin H, also known as Biotin, helps fingernails grow stronger as well as helping hair stay thick.

    B-Vitamins

    • Using a group of B-Vitamins can not only keep hair looking healthy, but also slow the graying of hair. It's important not to take single B-Vitamins, and only to take a group of them as decided by your doctor.

    Amino Acids

    • Taking supplements of Amino Acids may increase the circulation around the scalp depending on if the supplement is delivered topically or ingested. Though it hasn't been scientifically tested, Amino Acid supplements may reverse the graying of hair.

    Omega Fatty Acids

    • Taking a supplement for Omega Fatty Acids such as a Fish Oil supplement will help hair grow stronger and therefore thicker. This supplement may also stop other signs of aging in the brain.
