How to Powder Wheatgrass

Powdering wheatgrass is one of two options for consuming home grown wheatgrass. Wheatgrass is easily grown at home either with a pre-fabricated kit that can be purchased, or it can be grown by obtaining a handful of seeds, a few pots, untreated soil and water. Once the wheatgrass is ready to harvest, it can then be turned into either powder or juice. Both are safe for consumption, but powder is typically purported to be higher in fiber, while the juice is known to be easier on the digestive system. Either method provides a product that adds vital nutrients to a healthy diet.

Instructions

    • 1

Trim a crop of mature wheatgrass (8 inches) to 1/2-inch above the soil. It may take 6 to 9 days for wheatgrass to mature.

    • 2

Lay the harvested grass blades on a clean baking sheet.

    • 3

Set the oven temperature to 150 degrees F and insert the baking sheet.

    • 4

Allow the blades to dry out in oven. After two hours, check to see if the blades are dry and brittle. If so, remove them from the oven. If not, add more time in the oven. Check the progress of the grass blades often so as to avoid scorching.

    • 5

Grind all of the wheatgrass in a clean coffee grinder once the blades of grass are dry and brittle.

    • 6

Pour the final product of wheatgrass powder into a storage container so it is ready for future use.
