Supplements for Thyroid

The health of your thyroid is important and often overlooked. Taking the proper supplements can improve the function of your thyroid. As always, please consult your doctor before beginning any treatment program.
  1. Spirulina

    • Many thyroid patients have altered their diet to include spirulina, or blue-green algae, as it has antioxidant qualities and improves your immune system. Spirulina is highly recommended in addition to a healthy diet and exercise for patients with hypothyroidism, an underactive thyroid, as well as hyperthyroidism, an overactive thyroid.

    St. John's Wort

    • St. John's wort has been known to improve symptoms of low-grade depression that results from an underactive thyroid.

    Thyme Oil

    • Thyme oil, which can be found in mouthwash and decongestants, is thought to reduce thyroid activity and help reduce fatigue and depression. It is recommended only for hyperthyroidism.

    Lemon Balm

    • Extracts of lemon balm have had positive effects on patients with Graves' disease, a condition causing excess thyroid hormone production. The lemon balm diminishes immunoglobulin activity, which causes overactive thyroid in patients with Graves' disease.

    Fulvic Acid

    • Fulvic acid offers minerals and trace elements you may be lacking. Combined with omega 3s, calcium and a vitamin B-complex, it can help reduce the effects of an overactive thyroid.
