How to Drink Milk With Whey Protein

If you are involved in an athletic program or if you work out often, you may drink whey protein shakes. According to the Whey Protein Institute, the protein powder is created during the cheese-making process. Whey protein is available in a variety of flavors and several manufacturers offer the product. Although the protein powder is typically mixed with water for consumption, it can also be blended with milk for a delicious and vitamin-rich protein shake.

Read the directions on the container of whey protein powder. Usually, the instructions are found under the Nutrition Facts. Most protein powders will suggest 8 to 12 ounces of fluid per serving. Select skim or 1 percent milk if you are trying to develop lean muscles and whole milk if you want to gain weight. Add one cup of milk for eight ounces and 1.5 cups for 12 ounces. Pour the milk into the blender and add a few cubes of ice.

Measure the protein powder. The majority of whey protein companies suggest one to two scoops of powder in each serving. Use a knife or a spoon to level the powder as you do not need a heaping scoop. Add the protein powder to the blender.

Secure the lid. Select the blend or mix option and allow the milk and powder to combine for 30 seconds or until smooth. If you do not have a blender, use a blender bottle, a handheld device that you shake to mix the protein powder and milk. Whey protein also can so be combined with a spoon; however, it may not blend well and the powder will clump. Pour the protein shake into a glass and drink immediately.
