Detox Body Supplements

Using detox body supplements gives our cells a chance to function smoothly by periodically removing the toxins that accumulate. Some detoxifiers work by helping the liver detoxify while others cause toxins to be excreted from the urinary tract and bowels. There is a large variety of detox supplements on the market, many with botanical ingredients.

    Benefits of Detoxing

    • Our body takes in toxins every day from cigarette smoke, nail polish remover, car exhausts and other pollutants. Pollutants are also produced in the body when we drink alcohol or have a yeast infection. By regularly detoxing, the body reaps the benefits of more energy, an improved complexion, a clearer mind and elevated mood levels. Detox body supplements can help eliminate toxins and keep the skin clear.

    Traditional Formulas

    • According to Dr. Maoshing Ni, in his book, "Secrets of Longevity," nature has given us plants that possess powerful cleansing properties. A traditional formula for internal cleansing consists of mint, cassia, chrysanthemum flower and dandelion. Because of a chemical overload in our diet and environment, our liver begins to function sluggishly. This formula is specifically created to help cleanse the liver.

    Botanical Detoxifiers

    • According to Dr. Ni, there are two helpful botanical detoxifiers; hawthorn berry, and cocklebur fruit. Hawthorn berry is used to clear the arteries of cholesterol and fats. Cocklebur fruit opens the sinuses and expels mucus. Because they are made from plant fiber, they act like a broom to sweep the intestinal tract free of toxins. He recommends consuming these cleansing herbs regularly.

    To Eliminate Heavy Metal

    • According to Dr. Ni's book, "Second Spring," the amino acid N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) helps to detoxify a damaging substance called acetaldehyde. In addition to helping remove daily environmental pollutants, it helps to remove mercury, a highly toxic metal. NAC can also protect tissues from free radicals associated with muscular exertions and UV radiation. Dr. Ni recommends 600 mg per day.

    L-cysteine

    • Dr. Ni recommends the powerful detoxifier and antioxidant, L-cysteine. It helps protect the body from the harmful effects of heavy metals, radiation, alcohol, smoke, chemicals and pollution. The substance is found in a large variety of foods and is also sold in supplement form.

    Warning

    • According to the Mayo Clinic, herbs, vitamins and minerals are all considered dietary supplements by the Food And Drug Administration (FDA), and are not subject to the same quality control as drugs. Manufacturers do not have to prove to the FDA that a product is safe or effective before putting it on the market. You are advised to consult with your health care provider before adding a new supplement to your diet.
