Side Effects of Cq10

Coenzyme Q10 (Cq10) is a vitamin that is made by the body naturally. Cq10 is used by the cells of the body to promote growth and energy. There have only been a few negative side effects reported with the supplementation of Cq10.
  1. Identification

    • In addition to aiding the body in cell growth and energy, Cq10 is also an anti-oxidant. This helps to protect the body from cancer causing free radicals. Cq10 is found in the tissues within our bodies. The organs that have been found to have the highest levels of Cq10 are the liver, heart, pancreas and kidneys.

    Gastrointestinal Disturbances

    • While there have been no serious adverse effects reported with the use of Cq10, it has been linked to stomach pain, heartburn and nausea. Taking Cq10 with food may help to lessen stomach discomfort.

    Insomnia

    • Some people supplementing with Cq10 have reported mild incidents of insomnia. Others have reported dizziness, sensitivity to light, headaches and fatigue. Most of these effects were mild and may decrease with use.

    Drug Interactions

    • Cq10 may interfere with some prescription medications such as drugs that reduce cholesterol or lower blood sugar. These drugs may block the benefits of Cq10. Cq10 may also have negative effects when combined with insulin and Warfarin ( a blood clotting medication).

    Warning

    • While there have been no serious adverse effects reported with the use of Cq10, it is always prudent to check with your doctor before using any supplement.
