Homemade High Calorie Puree Foods

There a variety of health and medical reasons you might need to eat or prepare pureed foods that are easy to consume and digest. Smoothies and shakes are a great way to add protein and calories to your diet if you are having trouble eating well or when meeting required caloric requirements becomes difficult. The Super Protein Power Smoothie recipe is nutritious, full of protein for energy and high in calories (870 to be exact). In addition, it takes only 10 minutes to prepare.
  1. Ingredients

    • Assemble 1 cup of any milk of your choosing (cow, soy, rice or an Ensure-type product), a half-cup of plain or soy yogurt, 2 tablespoons of any type of protein powder, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, 1 tablespoon of oil, 1 banana and 1 tablespoon of finely ground flaxseeds. If your mouth is sore, it's OK to skip the flaxseed.

    Putting it All Together

    • Add the ingredients in the blender and place the cover on securely. Press the "blend" or "puree" button on your blender until you achieve the consistency you prefer in a drink. You can add more milk to the blender to thin a smoothie out that is too thick.

    Handling Leftovers

    • Store any unused smoothie in the refrigerator or freezer. To enjoy the next day, simply refrigerate and add a little more liquid and re-blend. If you want to keep leftovers for more than one day, put in the freezer and thaw when you are ready to drink some more.
