Primal Defense Ingredients
Our digestive system contains both helpful and harmful microorganisms. The good microflora help our immune system do its job and also support digestion. Probiotics like Primal Defense help maintain a healthy balance of beneficial microorganisms in our digestive tract and thus promote health. Primal Defense is available in four different formulas.-
Primal Defense Features
-
Primal Defense is a quality line of probiotic products made by the nutritional supplement company Garden of Life. The Primal Defense line contains a blend of different species of probiotic microorganisms. The number of probiotics species ranges from four to 13, depending on the formula.
Primal Defense Caplets
-
In addition to the probiotic blend, Primal Defense capsules contain a small amount of protein (usually about 2 percent of the recommended daily value, or RDV), 4 percent of RDV for calcium and 13 percent of RDV for iron from plant material in about 285 milligrams of plant-based minerals. The probiotic blend also contains barley grass and oat grass. Primal Defense contains the following blend of probiotics:
Lactobacillus plantarum
Bacillus subtilis
Lactobacillus brevis
Bifidobacterium breve
Bifidobacterium bifidum
Lactobacillus paracasei
Lactobacillus salivarius
Lactobacillus casei
Bifidobacterium lactis
Bifidobacterium longum
Lactobacillus acidophilus
Lactobacillus rhamnosus
Primal Defense Powder
-
The powder formula can be mixed into drinks or cold food, contains 13 percent of RDV for iron from plant material in about 285 milligrams of plant-based minerals, but it does not contain any calcium. The probiotic blend is the same as in the capsules.
Primal Defense Ultra
-
The Ultra formula is in capsule form; while similar to the powder, it has an additional probiotic called Saccharomyces boulardii. Garden of Life says the extra probiotic nourishes intestinal mucosa cells, which add extra support to intestinal function and the body's immune system.
Primal Defense Kids
-
Primal Defense Kids is a powder formula that contains four species of beneficial probiotic cultures: Saccharomyces boulardii, Bifidobacterium breve, Bifidobacterium infantis and Bifidobacterium longum. This formula also contains organic banana and 900 milligrams of inulin, a mildly sweet fiber. Primal Defense Kids does not contain any added protein or calcium.
How is Primal Defense Different from Other Probiotics?
-
Garden of Life claims its probiotic formula is the only one that contains 12 species of microorganisms. The difference, according to the manufacturer, is that Primal Defense uses a proprietary fermentation process to make nutrients more useful to the body. The ingredients are formulated on the belief that a good probiotic should not be based just on the number of probiotics but also on their ability to withstand harsh conditions in the digestive tract such as stomach acid and bile. In addition, Primal Defense contains naturally occurring substances that function as prebiotics, another important form of digestive flora that aids in digestion.
