Psyillium Husk Detox Diet

Psyillium Husk is a soluble fiber supplement derived from a plant seed. It is used as a bulking agent to relieve constipation or simply to add fiber to the diet. Used during a detox cleanse, psyllium husk helps to keep bowel movements regular and to clean out the colon. A typical psyllium husk detox diet lasts 7 days.
  1. First two Days

    • Start the cleanse with 2 days of a liquid diet consisting primarily of lemon water. You can also drink moderate amounts of herbal tea or diluted fruit juice. After the first two days, you can begin to add rice-based protein and fruits and vegetables. A good source of rice protein is brown rice which is also high in fiber. You can also buy unsweetened rice milk and rice protein for use in smoothies.

    Third day

    • Begin the psyllium husk supplement when you start eating on the third day. Take approximately 3 dozes of 10 grams each. One in the morning before breakfast, one in the afternoon, and one before bed. When you first begin taking the psyllium husk, you may experience an increase in gas and/or bloating. This is a normal reaction and should subside in a couple of days.

    Finishing the Cleanse

    • Continue the detox for at least another 5 days with only fruits, vegetables, rice and non-gluten grains. Try to avoid any food with a significant amount of oil or sugar. Continue the psyllium husk supplement until two days after the week-long cleanse is complete. If desired, you can continue taking psyllium husk regularly as a fiber supplement.
