1
Talk to your doctor. He will show you how to load the syringe and how much medication to administer. Once you are shown how to load the syringe and able to show you are capable of administering the drug yourself, you will be given a prescription.
-
2
Fill the prescription. It will include dosage information and instructions covering where to administer the shot (usually in the arm, but which you may be instructed to give somewhere else).
-
3
Sterilize the injection site with a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol. Open the sterile syringe and take the foil or plastic off the top of the medication vial or bottle. Load the syringe with slightly more medication than necessary and press the syringe until the measurement is correct.
-
4
Tap the syringe gently to remove any air bubbles. Slowly pierce the skin of the injection site with the needle until the needle is deep enough to enter the bloodstream. Slowly press the plunger on the syringe until the medication is released into the bloodstream.
-
5
Remove the needle from the syringe. Daub a sterile cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and wipe the injection site thoroughly. If the injection site continues to bleed, apply a bandage to it.
