What Are the Uses of Flax Oil?

Flaxseed oil is the same thing as flax oil and is a dietary supplement. Flax oil is derived from the seeds of the flax plant. It does not have all of the same benefits that flaxseed itself has. It does have some health benefits according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
  1. Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)

    • Flax oil contains alpha-linolenic acid. This is just one of a group of acids that belong to the omega-3 fatty acid group.

    Omega-3 Fatty Acid

    • Although ALA belongs to the omega-3 group, it does not by itself have all of the same benefits that the other two acids of this group have.

    Heart Disease

    • Flax oil may aid in reducing the risk of a heart attack that is fatal.

    General Benefits

    • Flax oil helps to reduce inflammation, aids in platelet functioning, arrhythmia and blood vessel health.

    Best Use

    • Flax oil is best used when in a diet plan that also includes the other two acids ( omega-3 and omega-6) in order to strengthen the immune system and combat many health issues, even cancer.
