How to Store Empty Vegetarian Capsules

Empty pill capsules can be purchased from health stores and used to administer nutritional supplements at home, under the supervision of a doctor. Commonly, capsules are made of gelatin or some other animal-based products, but vegetarian capsules are also available. Vegetarian capsules are made of plant-based materials. Empty pill capsules must be stored correctly to ensure they don't go to waste, and to protect the safety of the user. Storage recommendations are the same for vegetarian and non-vegetarian capsules.

Place the empty capsules in the glass jar and securely close the jar's lid. If you buy capsules in bulk, you may need to purchase multiple jars for storing all of the capsules. Do not leave the capsules in the plastic packaging after you open it, as this will not be sufficient to protect the capsules from moisture loss.

Locate an area in your home that is not exposed to excess humidity. For example, your bathroom and kitchen are inappropriate areas to store empty capsules because showers and cooking send a lot of humidity into the air.

    • 3

Place the closed jars in a place that will stay cool and out of direct sunlight. The empty capsules must be stored between 59 to 77 degrees.

    • 4

Check the capsules weekly, to ensure they are not being exposed to improper temperatures or moisture. Be sure the capsules are not clumping to each other, becoming overly brittle or changing color. If you see any of these signs, move the capsules to a new area of your home.
