Time your preworkout drink at least four hours before you plan to sleep if the drink contains stimulants. This will give your body time to come down from the stimulants before bedtime. If you find you can sleep well sooner, time your preworkout drink accordingly.

Use a lower dose or try a stimulant-free preworkout drink if you must work out late and a full-strength drink makes you sleepless.

Use a simpler stimulant such as coffee or an energy drink if your goal is to stay awake. Preworkout drinks are more expensive, and include other ingredients with minimal or no effect if you won't be taxing your muscles.

Use a protein drink or weight-gain supplement if you want to maintain your protein intake at bedtime. A simple protein supplement contains no stimulants and is suitable for use just before sleeping.
