How to Snack on the South Beach Diet
Low carb diets are very popular and one of the best is the South Beach Diet developed by Dr. Arthur Agatston. This way of eating encourages people to make healthy food choices based on the Glycemic Index, including snacks. That is right, snacking is not only encouraged, but it is required on the South Beach Diet, even on Phase 1.Healthy snacking keeps hunger at bay so you do not reach for those carb-heavy snacks. In addition to three healthy meals each day, the South Beach Diet includes two snacks - mid-morning and mid-afternoon - that include a protein, healthy fat and fiber.

1
Learn about good carbs and bad carbs. Read Dr. Agatston book, The South Beach Diet. Then visits websites and online forums to see how other people handle this new way of eating.
-
2
Keep it easy. The reason most diets fail is that the rules are too complex with weighing, measuring and counting calories. The nice thing about this diet: there is not much of that obsession here.
-
3
Stock the fridge and cupboards with the right low carb friendly foods. If you have them handy, then there is no excuse for pigging out on the bad carb foods.
-
4
Plan for your snacks. If you work, make sure you take something each day for both snacks. If you know you will be running around, take your snack with you.
-
5
Stick to real food. Its might seem easy to buy the pre-packaged snacks (even the approved South Beach Diet ones), but until you are farther along on the diet, try to stick to real foods.
-
6
Snack before dining out or a big event. This diet is meant to help you get your cravings under control and the right snack will help you do that.
-
7
Satisfy mid-night cravings. If you are a late night person, do not think you have to do without snacks. Follow the steps above and you will be okay.
-
8
Do not cheat!
