How to Compare Men's Vitamins

The market is full of multivitamins and performance-enhancing vitamins for men. Comparing them can feel overwhelming but it does not have to be when you know what you are looking for. Evaluating price, ingredients, composition and your needs will help you select the best vitamin at the best value for you.

Instructions

    • 1

Talk to your doctor before taking any new vitamin or supplement. Discuss your diet together and leave with an understanding of what vitamins and minerals you are already consuming from your diet, as well as which items you may be deficient in.

    • 2

Read reviews from organizations like Consumer Reports for brands of vitamins recommended for men. As of December 2010, Consumer Search and Consumer Reports recommended the GNC Mega Men, One-a-Day Men's Health Formula and Kirkland Signature Mature Multi 50+ as multivitamins worth buying.

    • 3

Read the nutritional labels on the bottles. Look for vitamins that contain 100 percent of the daily amount of each ingredient recommended for men (vitamins A, D, E, K, C, B6, B12, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, iodine and selenium). Avoid vitamins with 400 percent or higher of the daily value amounts for various minerals as dietitians say the body only absorbs about 10 to 15 percent of the nutrients in a vitamin.

    • 4

Decide on composition. Choose between liquid, powder and pill vitamins. Apply Step 3 to all vitamins you examine.

    • 5

Comparison shop for the lowest price once you have decided on a brand. Consider generic or store-brand vitamins if the nutritional information mirrors the brand name version, as it will provide the same result for less money. You can purchase a year's supply of generic daily vitamins for $15.
