Deficiencies in pantothenic acid are rare. Symptoms of a deficiency would include headache, fatigue, sleeplessness, appetite loss, abdominal pain and tingling or numbness in the hands and feet.

Vitamin B5 is promoted as being useful for a long list of ailments, including acne and skin disorders, stress, diabetic nerve pain, headaches, muscle cramps and fatigue. Many believe that vitamin B5 may slow the aging process. There is not enough scientific evidence to support these claims.
Cautions

Vitamin B5 is safe for most people when taken in the recommended dosage of five to 10 mg per day. Taking more than the recommended amount may cause diarrhea. People suffering from hemophilia should not take vitamin B5 because it will increase the time it takes to stop bleeding.
