Magnesium & Vitamin B
Found in fish, meat, and bananas, vitamin B6 is also called pyridoxine. Magnesium is used in the body's cells, and is a requirement for healthy cells. Magnesium helps the body absorb calcium and potassium, and keeps bones and teeth strong and healthy. B6 promotes the absorption of magnesium, and vice versa.-
Premmenstrual Symptoms
-
Magnesium and vitamin B6 have been used to alleviate premenstrual symptoms, including anxiety, depression, hydration and cravings. A study of 44 women proved lower anxiety for individuals who were supplemented with magnesium and vitamin B6.
ADHD
-
Magnesium and B6 have also been used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Children and adults with ADHD have low magnesium levels in the blood, compared to individuals without ADHD. This low magnesium level also leads to irritability and hyperactivity. It can lead to aggression, problems sleeping, and inattention. A study in children, ages 6 and 7, revealed that those who were given magnesium and vitamin B each day reduced inattentiveness, aggression and hyperactivity.
Muscles
-
According to web.mit.edu, calcium and magnesium work somewhat against each other in regard to muscles. Calcium causes muscles to tense, whereas magnesium causes them to relax. Low levels of magnesium prohibit the muscles from relaxing. The increased absorption offered by mixing magnesium and vitamin B allows the magnesium to be used for muscle relaxing, helping muscle-related illnesses, including fibromyalgia.
Kidneys
-
A study of 149 individuals who took magnesium and B6 showed that the rate of kidney stone formation decreased 92.3 percent. Instead of the 1.3 stones each person normally had, .10 stones were found during the study. There were also no side effects.
Deficiency
-
Deficiencies of magnesium can be caused by excessive sweating, poor sleep patterns and difficulty sleeping, anxiety and stress, and consuming alcohol, tea, soda, sugar, salt and coffee. Magnesium deficiency can cause irritability, insomnia, depression, hypertension, fatigue and seizures.
