Vitamins in a Tangerine

A tangerine is a citrus fruit with a bright orange color and sweet flavor. Most tangerines produced in the United States come from California and Florida. Other names for a tangerine include mandarin orange and clementine. Tangerines are loaded with vitamins and minerals. The vitamin amounts listed pertain to those found in a large-sized (109g) tangerine. This size is specified by the Nutritional Labeling and Education Act (NLEA) as the standard serving size.
  1. Vitamin A

    • Vitamin A is required for normal vision as well as gene expression, immune function and reproduction. Tangerines provide 37mcg, which is 6 percent of the recommended daily intake.

    Vitamin C

    • Vitamin C is a protective antioxidant. Tangerines provide 29.1mg, or 45 percent of the daily recommendation.

    B Vitamins

    • Tangerines provide a variety of vitamins from the B-complex. There is 0.063mg of thiamine (vitamin B1) in a tangerine, or 4 percent recommended intake. One tangerine contains 0.039mg or riboflavin (vitamin B2), or 2 percent daily intake. The fruit also contains 0.41mg, or 2 percent of the recommended amount of niacin (vitamin B3) and 0.085mg, or 4 percent of the recommended amount of vitamin B6.

    Folate

    • One tangerine contains 17mcg, or 4 percent of the daily recommended amount of folate. Folate is the natural form of folic acid, an important component in metabolic processes.

    Other

    • Other vitamins found in tangerines in smaller quantities include chlorine, alpha and beta carotenes, vitamin E, lutein and beta-cryptoxanthin.
