Pumpkin Seeds & Zinc

Toasted pumpkins seeds are standard autumn fare for many people, but most don't realize that these seeds are actually very nutritious as well as tasty. Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc, which is very important to body function.
  1. Skin

    • Zinc aids in the development of healthy skin, and acne and psoriasis treatments often include zinc.

    Fertility

    • Sexually active men need more zinc than women do because there is zinc in semen. Zinc deficiencies can cause male infertility.

    Immunity

    • Zinc plays a big role in immune system functions and cell growth. One of the first signs of zinc deficiency is decreased immunity.

    Cooking

    • Spread raw pumpkin seeds on a baking sheet with some olive oil and a little seasoning to roast them for a snack. One serving of pumpkin seeds, or about a quarter cup, offers 20 percent of a typical adult's daily value of zinc.

    Storage

    • Store pumpkin seeds in an airtight container in a dry, cool area. For longer storage, use the refrigerator or even the freezer.
