What Is DHEA Sulfate?

DHEA Sulfate (Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate) is a blood test that is used to measure the amount of DHEA Sulfate in a persons blood. A common abbreviation for DHEA Sulfate is "DHEAS".

    • Blood is drawn from a vein, usually on the hand or on the inside of the elbow.

    Preparation

    • No special preparations are required when testing for DHEA Sulsate,

    • There will not be anymore discomfort than there would be when compared to a normal shot.

    Reason for testing

    • The primary reason for testing for DHEA Sulfate is to determine the performance of adrenal glands. DHEA Sulfate is a minor male hormone produced by the adrenal gland.

    Risk

    • General risk while testing for DHEA Sulfate are the same as getting blood drawn; feeling light headed, feeling weak, or infection.
