The Healing Power of Vinegar
Vinegar has been used medicinally for thousands of years to treat a variety of ailments and conditions. The history of how vinegar came about is unknown, but many speculate that ancient civilizations discovered it when their wine was exposed to air, thus turning it sour. Consuming vinegar has many benefits and helps ease the symptoms of a number of illnesses.-
Types
-
There are several types of vinegar, such as balsamic, white, wine, malt and apple cider.
Organic apple cider vinegar is the most widely used type for healing purposes, mainly because it is easier for the body to digest and is less acidic.
Benefits
-
Apple cider vinegar can be used for treating acne, sore throat, fever, arthritis pain, allergies, lack of energy, chronic fatigue, acid reflux, lowering cholesterol and high blood pressure, weight loss and body detoxification. Raw apple cider vinegar is shown to be the best because it isn't pasteurized; the pasteurization process eliminates the valuable nutrients and enzymes that are most important in the treatment of ailments.
Daily Dose
-
According to Earth Clinic, the amount of vinegar you consume in a day depends on the condition you are treating. For daily maintenance and balancing of your body, it is recommended to sip 16 ounces of water mixed with two teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar throughout the day; doing it this way helps the vinegar's properties to work consistently. For acute conditions, it is recommended to sip only 8 ounces of water mixed with two tablespoons of vinegar. A third way, the old-fashioned way, is to simply take a straight tablespoon of vinegar two to three times a day, that is, if you don't mind the taste.
Warnings
-
Before trying to use apple cider vinegar as a healing remedy, it is recommended that you consult your physician. It has been said that there are potential side effects and the vinegar may interact with some types of medications and their absorption into the body. Check with your doctor to see if he knows of any possible effects it may have on your medications.
