Vitamins That are Essential for Skin

Our skin is the largest organ of our body, performing numerous functions necessary for life. The skin needs nutrients to stay healthy and do its work. Among those nutrients, there are a number of vitamins that are essential.
  1. Vitamin A

    • Vitamin A assists in the repair and growth of body tissues, and helps keep skin disease-free, smooth and soft. It has been used externally for acne, boils, carbuncles, impetigo and open ulcers.

    Riboflavin

    • Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) works with enzymes in the utilization of cell oxygen and therefore is essential for cell respiration, which helps to maintain skin.

    Pantothenic Acid

    • Vitamin B5, or pantothenic acid, assists in the utilization of riboflavin, helps to increase the production of cortisone and other adrenal hormones essential for healthy skin, and protects against cellular damage caused by excessive radiation. It helps to prevent wrinkles and premature aging.

    The B Complex

    • Collectively, the B Complex vitamins ensure normal cell function and prevent or help to correct abscess, acne, bedsores, bruises, burns, dandruff, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis and shingles.

    Vitamin C

    • A primary function of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is maintaining collagen, an essential protein for the formation of connective tissue in skin. Vitamin C helps in healing wounds and burns, and facilitates the formation of connective tissue in scars.

    Vitamin E

    • Vitamin E has been useful in the healing of abrasions, skin ulcers and burned tissue. It dissolves or prevents scar tissues, including those caused by acne.
