Health Benefits of Vitamin B50

Vitamin B50 is a B-complex supplement consisting of 50 mg (or mcg, depending on the vitamin) of each of the essential B vitamins. B vitamins work best together. B vitamins are water soluble, which means they cannot be stored in the body.
The benefits of taking a B-complex vitamin include better brain function as well as improved nerve, skin, eye, hair, liver and mouth health. A B50 vitamin also often includes the addition of up to 400 mcg of folic acid, which works with B12 to help build red blood cells.
  1. Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)

    • Thiamine enhances circulation and blood formation and helps with cognitive activity and brain function.

    Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)

    • Riboflavin helps the body produce red blood cells. It also alleviates eye fatigue and helps in the treatment and prevention of cataracts.

    Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

    • Niacin lowers cholesterol and helps improve circulation. It also helps keep skin healthy.

There are two forms of niacin--nicotinic acid and niacinamide. Generally, a B50 Complex supplement has niacinamide. Taking less than 500 mg per day of niacinamide is unlikely to cause harm to your body. More than 17 mg per day of nicotinic acid can cause lasting liver damage, however, so pay attention to the form of niacin in your supplement.

    Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)

    • B5 helps prevent some forms of anemia, aids in the body's ability to utilize vitamins and is essential in the formation of antibodies. B5 is needed for the normal functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.

    Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)

    • B6 plays a role in cancer immunity. It is also helpful in the treatment of asthma, arthritis and allergies. B6 can reduce the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.

The Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine has established an Upper Tolerable Intake Level (UL) for B6 at 100 mg per day. The risk of nerve damage to the arms and legs increases at doses over this level.

    Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin)

    • B12 is needed to prevent anemia. It also prevents nerve damage, maintains fertility and enhances sleep. It has also been shown to reverse symptoms of Bell's Palsy.

The standard amount in a B50 supplement is 50 micrograms as opposed to 50 mg for the other B vitamins.

    Biotin

    • Biotin is needed for healthy hair and skin. It contributes to healthy bone marrow and nerve tissue. Biotin also helps relieve muscle pain. The standard amount in a B50 supplement is 50 mcg.
