How to Dissolve Vitamins

Many people take daily vitamins to supplement their diets. Because it is difficult to maintain a diet that is completely balanced and contains all needed vitamins and nutrients, daily vitamins ensure that you fulfill all of the needs of an active body. Not all vitamins are created equally; therefore it is a good idea to test the dissolving rate of your tablets. Vitamins that have trouble fully dissolving during an acid test will not fully dissolve in the body, therefore, limiting full benefits. Test your vitamins to ensure that you are getting all your needed nutrients.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour one cup of white vinegar into a bowl. Place the bowl into a slightly larger bowl of boiled water. Test the temperature of the white vinegar using the kitchen thermometer until it reaches approximately 98F degrees. As the vinegar is warming, refill the larger bowl with warmer water as the original water may cool.

    • 2

Place the vitamin you wish to test into the warmed vinegar. Gently stir or swirl the bowl and its mixture every five minutes. Do not to touch or break the vitamin tablet while stirring, as this will disturb the results.

    • 3

Check the condition of the tablet after approximately 30 minutes. A quality vitamin tablet should be fully dissolved at this point. Liquid vitamins will dissolve almost immediately, while pill formed vitamins will most likely take at least 30 minutes. If not fully dissolved, give the tablet another 30 minutes in the vinegar. Gently stir every five minutes.

    • 4

Observe the condition of the tablet after the second 30-minute period. If the tablet has fully dissolved at this point, then it is likely to fully dissolve in the stomach. If not, then the tablet isn't likely to fully dissolve while digesting. It is recommended to choose vitamins that dissolve within the 30 to 60-minute period as these are much more effective and beneficial nutritionally.
