How to Decrease Riboflavin

Riboflavin, or vitamin B2, is a vitamin used to prevent cervical cancer and migraines, as well as to treat acne, carpal tunnel syndrome and certain blood disorders. Providing your body with enough riboflavin is essential to good health. But sometimes you may need to decrease riboflavin levels in your body, because the vitamin can affect the effectiveness of other medications, such as those taken for malaria.

Instructions

    • 1

Allow time to pass to reduce levels of riboflavin in your body naturally. Riboflavin is a water-soluble vitamin and is naturally reduced quickly because of the human body's large concentration of water.

    • 2

Take blond psyllium seed powder to reduce the absorption of riboflavin from vitamin supplements. Buy the supplements at a drugstore. Follow directions on the bottle.

    • 3

Avoid foods high in riboflavin, including milk, fortified cereals, meat and eggs. Read food labels for vitamin B2 or riboflavin content and choose foods that contain lower percentages of the vitamin.

    • 4

Expose riboflavin-containing foods to light to destroy riboflavin. Place non-perishable items in the sun or store next to a source of light. Put a battery-powered camping lantern in the refrigerator to destroy riboflavin in products such as milk.
