How to Gain Weight to Look Good

Being overweight comes with a plethora of health concerns, and being underweight can be just as dangerous. While some underweight people can be healthy if they are simply born with a slender, small body frame, other underweight people may experience health concerns ranging from frail bone density to lack of energy and poor immunity to illnesses, according to BBC Health. Although one might think gaining weight is easier than losing it, it actually requires just as much vigilance and hard work.

Set a weight gain goal. Just as in weight loss, weight should be gained gradually over time. Motley Health deems a weight gain of about two pounds per month as a healthy goal.

Start a food diary. Plan out your meals for the day. Also, count your calories, a practice that is just as important in weight gain as in weight loss. Make a food diary and note how extra calories can fit into your routine. For gaining two pounds a month, add around 300 to 350 calories to your daily diet. Eat good foods and not food loaded with simple sugars. Add more carbohydrates and proteins to your diet.

Exercise and strength-train. Although exercising tends to burn calories, lifting weights and resistance training will strengthen bones and help build muscle mass, which will add even more pounds than fat. Work out five days a week for about 30 minutes each time.
