How to Tell if You've Lost Weight

Losing weight can be an uphill battle, and keeping an accurate record week to week is an important tool to help shed pounds. If you are losing weight at a slow pace, which is often recommended, using a scale and a measuring tape is the best way to keep track of your weight loss. Hopping on the scale at the same time each day will provide the most accurate reading on how much weight you are losing, and the measuring tape will help you keep track of your waist size.

Determine a time each day that is convenient to weigh yourself and that the scale is accessible. Make sure to weigh yourself at the same time each day, such as early in the morning or just before bed.

    • 2

Make a chart on which to record your weight each day. Weigh yourself, and then record your weight and the date. As you continue to add to the chart, determine whether your weight is rising or falling day to day or week to week.

Once a week, use the measuring tape when you weigh yourself. Wrap the tape around your abdomen, just above the hip bones. Tighten the tape so that it is snug but not pressing down on your abdomen. Write down your waist size next to the date on the chart, so you can see whether your waist size is increasing or decreasing.
