Locate potential weight loss studies in your area. Contact local colleges and universities and ask if they are or will be carrying out active weight loss studies. Search the U.S. National Institutes on Health website for other weight loss studies currently recruiting.

Read about the purpose of the study and make sure it interests you. If not, find another study.

Research eligibility criteria to find out if you can participate in the trial. The better the inclusion criteria fits, the better your chances of being selected for the study.

Review the details of the study thoroughly. Check for details regarding how long the study will last, how involved the process is and whether or not there will be mandatory overnight stays. If the study involves dietary restrictions, make sure you are not allergic to the foods provided.
